These 4 pictures are of the bungalow I first experienced Long Beach in. My father bought it about 1960 or 1961 for $ 6000.00 !!  77 Arizona Ave., it was the only house on the street with two huge pine trees in front of it, I could always find my way home !! I posted these just to show how the house changed over the years, as most West End houses did.  And no comments about how my mother, may she rest in peace, dressed my brother and I like twins either !!!  (first 3 photos from my father's albums, charlie jacobi, last one I took)
77 Arizona Ave, about 1961
This was about 1961. This is how the house looked when we bought it. The screened front porch let the ocean breeze blow gently through, but  it leaked like hell in summer thunderstorms !! The trees were great though, always a shady spot for summer lemonade !! This is me (right) with my brother and grandmother. My mother is looking out the window.
77 Arizona Ave, 1964
This was 1964, again, my brother and I. My father had closed in the front porch, concreted the yard and put a fence up.  The house was loosing it's 1920's charm slowly but surely.
This would have been sometime in the late 80's probably, after my father sold the house. It looks naked and barren. The trees having been cut down, artificial grass carpet on the patio, and the house looking as if it has lost all it's character.. what a shame.. it held such great memories.. I'll never forget that musty old smell when we opened it up every Memorial Day when I was a kid....some things are better left as they were.

2002
I took this in March 2002 when I was up for a visit.  Looks like the new owners have done a nice job making the old house pretty again... though I sure miss those big, old pine trees !!
